Necrotics Anonymous

About the project

Necrotics Anonymous is a ten minute short film that I directed in my second year of university. It started out (in a very beginner level film student fashion) as just a film about drug addiction, but from here (to my mind at least) it evolved into something far more character driven. Ultimately the film is about a girl trying to form an attatchment with someone, someone who is only interested in using her for their own benefit.

I'm a few months on from having submitted this for my course, (I got a First for the grade which I'm thrilled about) and looking back at it now I can naturally see a few things I would do differently. The sets aren't as detailed as I would like, some of the framing, especially in the last couple of scenes feels a bit awkward, and despite having eight days to shoot everything, I still feel like some of the scenes aren't everything that they could be. This isn't to say I'm not proud of this project though, I certainly am. Being able to look back now and identify these issues just tells me that I have good taste, that clearly I've improved since then and now I AM able to identify things that I didn't before, thats why I'm posting about it here afterall, so that it can be looked back on by me (and hopefully other people) and appreciated for what it is, while also hopefully demonstrating growth that I've made from now to whatever point in the future.

Damm, we got a bit "philosophical" there. basically what we have here is le film about le drugs with le funky colours in. :)

Making the film

This was probably the largest project I've worked on to date, we shot for eight days with a cast and crew of around twenty people, because of this, regardless of the outcome of the film, it was absolutly a worthwhile experience to gain. Having said that, I DO also think the film turned out quite well, especially the scenes with more lighting effects and of course the soundtrack that we had made exclusively for the project, which was fantastic.

Overall, so much work went into this project from so many people and I can't say enough how grateful I am to have met and worked with them all.
